Maltodextrin Powder
Early studies have shown the benefits of using maltodextrins in oral rehydration solutions (ORS) for people with diarrhea compared to the use of glucose, and concluded that solutions with a lower sodium content and glucose-polymer, compared to a higher sodium content and higher osmolality due to the use of glucose, may be useful in the liquid feeding strategy for acute infantile diarrhea. At similar concentrations based on dry weight, osmolality increased with increasing DE saccharide. Compared on a weight basis, the osmolality of maltodextrins is significantly lower than disaccharide sugars.
